Welcoming the Age of Aquarius
/According to astrology, a shift from one astrological age to another occurs every 2,160 years and happens because of equinox precession. This is a movement of the celestial equator (the projection of earth’s equator into space) with respect to the fixed stars and the path of the sun’s motion in space as viewed from Earth. Gravity causes precession and results in slow and continuous change. There are twelve ages relating to the Zodiac signs, and each astrological age lasts for roughly 2,160 years. It takes approximately 26,000 years for an entire precession period to complete all twelve signs, after which the cycle repeats.
Our ancestors observed and worked with these natural cycles, using what they learned to guide their daily lives. The Earth moves in a counterclockwise path, which means that the progression of ages happens in a reverse direction through the signs. After the Age of Leo comes the Age of Cancer followed by the Age of Gemini, and so on. Right now, we are in the middle of the shift from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius.
Ages shift gradually through time and space; therefore, when exactly the Age of Aquarius begins is an unanswerable question. It takes many years to make this gradual transition from one age to another, and no specific day and time can be marked. As we move through the big shift between two ages happening right now, the energetic effects are felt, seen, and experienced in the world. This is just the start of a new beginning!
The fact is, we are in a very critical - and exciting - time of change.
During this shift, we are invited to meet our soul and our spirit with eyes wide open. As we look inward, we find that we are not only individuals, but also part of the collective. As we experience global, local, and individual changes, we will begin to question the systems that are in place. Not only is this completely normal, it’s also exactly what is needed.
Aquarius is the air sign that helps us to ask, “Why?” One of the most beautiful parts of anyone with a strong Aquarius placement is that their chart indicates a need to be different. Asking the hard questions and marching to a beat no one else hears is an energy the whole world will use as a filter going forward. This forms a continual breath of fresh air that will help us question the laws and the people who have created those laws. It will give us courage to stand up for those being oppressed and hurt by outdated systems. We are beginning to look at what needs to be questioned and changed as global citizens. We are beginning to look inward and ask ourselves what we need, on a personal level, in order to be happy.
These are tricky times and so remember: We are on this journey together.
Even though we are at different individual evolutionary stages and levels of consciousness and being, we collectively are going through the same gateways and portals. We are witnessing the greatest changes ever on Earth right now. Some of these changes involve navigating a global pandemic, climate change, evolving political structures, and the shifting of long-held, and increasingly archaic, beliefs.
Many astrologers see the Age of Aquarius as a time when humanity takes compassionate and enlightened control of its own destiny as its rightful heritage. It centers on the revelation of truth and the expansion of consciousness, where some people will become the enlightened teachers and sages of the coming Age of Aquarius.
